The aim of the SG is to promote, research, exchange ideas and materials pertaining to all aspects of Western music transmitted in tablature for all instruments. The principal areas of research and activity concern tablature sources, problems of editing and editorial techniques, cataloguing, performance practice, intabulated music and the musical mainstream, and the role of tablature music in the the social history of music. The group is particularly committed to breaking down the barriers that have made it difficult for scholars with little knowledge of tablature notations to assimilate intabulated repertories into studies of history and style. The next meeting Group is expected to be part of the international Meeting of Lute Societies being organised by the Nederlandse Luitvereniging to be held as part of the Utrecht Early Music festival in August 2013 in the week commencing 26 August 2013.
